Acrylic paintings by Simon Carter in the Technical Museum of East Iceland: part of Sluice: Seyðisfjörður - World-Building
Simon Carter is an artist and curator who was born in Chelmsford, Essex in 1961. He studied at Colchester Institute (1980–81) and then North East London Polytechnic (1981–84). Simon is President of Colchester Art Society and has been Artist-in-residence at the University of Essex and Firstsite, Colchester. He is represented by Messum's Gallery. Simon’s work demonstrates a lifelong commitment to painting and the Essex backwaters near his home. The mudflats and salt marsh that are Simon’s subject present a kaleidoscope of form colour and shapes shifting through the seasons. As with the best landscape painting Simon brings to the surface profound emotions and thoughts for which the images he conjures are the catalyst.
